The Spilt Life

Client:
Surf Industry Manufacturers Association
Project:
The Spilt Life

Poisoned marine animals regularly wash ashore along the coasts of California, covered in toxic oil that comes from constant leaks of underwater pipelines.

The Spilt Life project collects these dead animals and uses them as 'printing plates'. The same oil that killed them is used as ink, as they are pressed against paper, creating a powerful impression of the dead animal, on canvas.

During 2023, fourteen Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) environmental beneficiaries, including Oceana, will benefit from the funds generated by auctions of the Spilt Life original artwork, as well as fine art reproductions, merchandise, and public exhibitions at events such as Surfscape and Waterman, raising awareness and advocacy towards solving offshore drilling along the coast of California.
